As part of a six-month pilot program, Ingram Micro, Inc., and Tech Data Corporation have been selected to co-locate distribution and logistics operations at HP's North American distribution center.   "HP's goal is to better manage inventory and increase product availability to the channel and customers," said Dave Hushbeck, supply-chain-development manager for HP's Imaging and Printing Systems. "The co-location pilot program is one element of an overall strategy to optimize our supply chain."  Increased Supply-chain Efficiencies  HP's selection of Ingram Micro and Tech Data for co-location is part of the company's strategy is to ship printing and imaging products in a faster, more efficient and cost-effective manner. HP also expects to deliver faster response to customers' orders. Consequently, resellers and end users should experience improved product availability. HP also anticipates that cost efficiencies will be gained through improved inventory management and the ability to reduce overall channel inventory.  "This pilot program is a first for the peripheral-products industry and has the potential to help reduce costs, eliminate excessive product touch, and shave seven to 10 days of delivery time from conventional delivery cycles," said Elio Levy, vice president and general manager, Peripherals Product Marketing for Tech Data.
