BSNS WIRE) Telenetics Expands Operation to U.K. Will Introduce GSM Cell Telenetics Expands Operation to U.K. Will Introduce GSM Cellular for Automatic Meter Reading in U.K. Business Editors, High-Tech Writers LAKE FOREST, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1999--Telenetics Corporation (OTCBB:TLNT) announced today that several developments in the last few months, including the successful testing and installation of first shipment of its proprietary Fast Poll module with BG Transco plc ("Transco"), the largest gas utility in U.K. and a pending strategic alliance with Highland Energy Light & Power in Scotland, has created significant new business opportunities for the Company in the rapidly growing automatic meter reading (AMR) and utility automation market in U.K. for the year 2000 and beyond. Recognizing the importance of the recently deregulated utility market in U.K., the Company announced that it will be introducing a GSM Cellular version of its highly successful Omega wireless AMR technology for the British market in spring 2000. Transco is one of the two companies formed following the privatization and subsequent divestiture of British Gas in 1993. It is responsible for Delivery of gas to 19.5 million customers. Highland Energy is a recently formed energy service provider (ESP). Highland Energy plans to market Telenetics' wireless AMR technology into the recently deregulated electric utility market in U.K. Gary Ross, the Managing Director of Highland Energy stated: "The alliance with Telenetics is happening at an opportune time when the industry regulator, OFGEM, is finalizing its plan for a competitive U.K. electricity market. The innovative attributes of Omega(TM) wireless technology will offer significant advantage to he electric supply companies by reducing the overheads and providing a reliable data gathering solution." Commenting on the these developments, Michael Armani, President and Chief Executive Officer of Telenetics stated that: "The successful installation of our proprietary technology at one of the largest gas utilities in Europe and the growing interest in our wireless AMR system, is a testimonial to the success of our cellular technology, which in a very short period of time has enabled us to become a leader in and a pace setter for the commercial and industrial AMR market. Since the introduction of our Omega(TM) product line in August 1998, we have received over $10.5 million in orders and have successfully installed over 15,000 units across North America. With the planned introduction of CD-PD and GSM technologies using the Omega(TM) wireless platform, we will open new market opportunities in the U.S., Europe and Latin America." In early December Telenetics, a leader in the design and manufacture of proprietary wireless data-communications solutions for utility and industrial automation, traffic management and intelligent transportation markets, announced that it will enhance its Omega(TM) and other wireless data collection and remote monitoring devices by offering an embedded Internet and Web-based wireless connectivity and performance reporting technology. The new proprietary technology enables the customers to collect performance data or functional and usage report of industrial devices such as utility meters and traffic controllers via cellular networks and directly review it on a web site or through an email message. Omega(TM) cellular technology was first installed in Pittsburgh in 1998 under a contract with Duquesne Light Company (Nasdaq:DQE). Since then, Telenetics has received $8 million in orders from Duquesne Light. Omega(TM) is designed by Telenetics to provide meter reading, outage detection and reporting and other data acquisition capabilities through dedicated or shared telephone lines and cellular lines. Each Omega(TM) unit can be attached to eight utility meters or other similar devices and is expandable to 32 units with an enhancement. In addition to unlimited two-way communication capability, Omega(TM) products can store the serial number or address of the meter or any other device and in the case of a power outage or other alarm conditions, reports to a central host or a web address. Omega(TM) is capable of receiving or initiating communications and transmitting data as frequently as required by the host application. Telenetics uses cellular networks to collect data from industrial devices such as meters, remote terminal units, traffic controllers, industrial controls, remote sensors and data loggers and transmit it through wireless cellular and radio frequency networks or telephone lines to a host site, direct or via the Internet. Telenetics wireless solutions are utilized in many applications such as AMR projects, power outage detection, traffic automation projects, flow measurement and remote monitoring.
