<<Nokia is hiring like you wouldn't believe. They have more than 40 open positions for antenna engineers, DSP engineers, ASIC engineers, RF engineers, Phone design engineers, etc. This all started up about two months ago and has been building ever since.>>

Pretty elaborate "head fake" if Nokia is NOT buying Qualcomm's handset division !

Jon.

<<Do they have to do this if they wanted to pay for a handset division by shares rahter than cash? Are they consolidating to make sure that the number of shares outstanding are less so that after they pay out cash for the initial payment they can still maintain the EPS numbers?>>

Engineer,

Nokia has a very complex equity structure and I think this was just some straightening up to make it look 'cleaner'. European financial reporting used to be something of a scam, although the bigger companies cleaned it up so they could list their shares in the US.

There could be a relationship with a possible handset purchase, but I doubt Q wants to own part of Nokia, as it could create problems selling to other handset manufacturers. But anything is possible.
