All that, and here in the States they are beginning to consider outlawing boxing....
What a shame. It really is the "sweet science". Although it is a brutal sport, it is only brutal when overmatched opponents meet each other. Unfortunately, in this day of "keep the championship safe and take the money" sporting events in the US, it is becoming an everyday occurrence.

OT Paul:

I first saw, _When We Were Kings_, two summers ago, renting it at a convenience store that had a selections of $1/day tapes. You have probably seen it more than I, but since that initial viewing, I watch it every time it comes on one of the premium channels on TV (via PrimeStar--satellite dish). In addition to being a fan of Ali, I was living in E. Africa when the fight took place so I can astro-project back in time with that film.

I became interested in professional boxing as a small child, watching, "The Gillette Fight of the Week," on TV with my grandparents. In this, I suspect I am rather typical of many people in my generation.

Regards,

Lynn

P.S. I was given the Foreman grill for Christmas two years ago. More trouble than its worth.

Paul.... I think it's ESPN that has been running the athlete of the century countdown. Last I saw, Wayne Gretzky and Jim Thorpe were like # 5 and # 6. Ali is an automatic for #1 in my opinion, followed by Ruth and Jordan. At least, those have been my guesses from square one. CMGI flyin' again! SPLIT TIME!!! I LIKE IT!!! El
