<<Cool - I wanted to find out from somebody here whats up with the wine industry and
environmentalism. Anybody know? I always thought the wine industry was ok... its a
type of farming of course so theres all the general farming stuff, but none of the heavy
machinery etc. Some people here were talking as if the wineries were an unfriendly
industry... tia>>

This is an interesting question, Lizzie, and I don't know the answer, either. When we vacationed in Guerneville last fall, which is in Sonoma County at the Russian River, there was quite a lot in the local press which was negative about the encroaching vineyards. I don't know if the objections are environmental or economic, really. But it seemed like one problem from the viewpoint of the locals is that the vineyards took all the agricultural land that was up for sale, and because of supply and demand drove up the price so that the locals could not afford it.
