Thank you for taking us all back to basics, X. We ARE meant to bear and nurture offspring, and the other facets of life are secondary to this primary function.

I read an article from the New York Times this week which is related in a way. There is a highly contagious respiratory virus--RSV--which is rampant this year, sending twice as many babies as usual to the hospital.

According to the article, pediatricians believe the virus is spreading so rapidly because of the rising numbers of infants under six months in day care centers.

I usually cite emotional health, good nurturing, attachment issues and intellectual stimulation for good brain development as the primary reasons that mothers should stay home with babies and young children, but the fact that babies are hugely susceptible to viruses is certainly an indication that in nature's plan for survival of our young, it is intended that they stay with their immediate families as they build up immunity during their infancy.
