Sun Microsystems in Talks With iXL to Form Strategic CollaborationTo Develop E-Business Solutions for Global Clients

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its recently- unveiled plans to expand its Americas eSun and Channels organization to keep pace with the Internet economy, Sun Microsystems today said it has begun discussions with iXL, Inc., a leading strategic Internet services company, about forming a collaboration to deliver e-business solutions to customers. This move demonstrates Sun's commitment to forge creative channel partnering relationships with the new breed of Web integrators in order to jointly deliver the most efficient, time-sensitive solutions to help companies ".com" themselves.

The discussions between Sun and iXL are one of the first results of Sun's expansion of its U.S. Channels organization beyond value-add resellers to encompass Web integrators, systems integrators, consultants and "influence" channel partners -- Web-focused, fast-to-market companies such as iXL who are responsible for the deployment of Sun(TM) technology, regardless of whether they actually resell Sun systems.

Sun and iXL have already successfully worked together to deliver Sun technology-based e-business solutions in the areas of e-commerce, customer relationship management (CRM) and digital media. iXL's Digital Media Solutions Group works with Sun to deliver mission critical solutions for broadband media portals, media commerce and distribution solutions, media asset management infrastructures, collaborative media production systems and interactive television applications and infrastructure.

"iXL represents a new breed of Internet integrator focused on transforming the way a company does business, and we already have a solid track record of teaming with them to deliver next-generation solutions," said Joe Womack, vice president of Americas eSun and Channel Sales, Sun Microsystems. "For Sun, this is an important evolution of our channels strategy that rewards our channel partners, regardless of title exchange; in fact, it's quickly becoming irrelevant whether or not a channel partner actually resells hardware, if they're working with us to jointly develop a complete solution for the customer."

iXL, Inc. designs, develops and deploys comprehensive Internet solutions for Fortune 1000 companies and strategic ".coms," combining vertical-industry-specific expertise with rapid time-to-market delivery. iXL uses the Sun Solaris(TM) Operating Environment as one of its key strategic platforms for its e-business solutions. The company also makes extensive use of Sun's Java(TM) 2 platform as an application development framework.

"In today's e-business economy, it is critical for companies like Sun and iXL to engage in long-term strategic collaboration," said Lorin Coles, vice president of alliances at iXL, Inc. "It is evident that Sun understands the value of the new breed of e-business service providers -- they're listening to the needs of their clients, and the marketplace."

Atlanta-based iXL Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: IIXL) is the parent company of iXL, Inc. and the Consumer Financial Network Inc.
