Since John Postel died I have been thinking about taking over the Internet and firing those Internic people. Everybody should be able to select their own IP numbers and names and any number of them at that and for a nominal administration fee. Hell, I will take the job for 1 million US per year and cover all expenses, computer and all.

I cannot see why people cannot have up to 1000 IP's if they want. After all, they have to pay for bandwidth and if they cannot afford the computers, they cannot possibly connect them unless they want to connect the TV, the pop up toaster and their kids tricycle and why not? The most that can be is 4 trillion IP numbers and all that is, is: 3.999.999.999.999 and you are done. A tad long but what do you care? You don't type the damn things in!

And what is all this fuss about who can have what dot.com? Why not give the damn things out and be done with it. If two people want to have the saem DOT.com, let them! If people type in a DOT.com and twelve people have the same name as many people already do, just put up te choices and let them have their pick1 If they want to sue let them. Its not the internet's business. Mapping dot.coms is horse pucky!

I would charge a flat ten bucks a year for the dot.com or net or org. the only thing I would not do is give someone a dot.org if someone had the same dot.com already. I would tell him that twelve people had that as dot.com and they would have to take the dot.com and net and org and be the same as everyone else with that name. I would ask him to prove he had an actual company before I would issue the dot. com, either limited, Incorporated or registered. Then if he had no such company of any name I would tell him to register as a person with a dot.per! And I would do it for a check. If the check bounced so what? I cancel his name and make him pay the 15 dollars if he signs up again. Simple.

If people complain there are two many collisions I would tell them to give out only their IP and that is that. Screw 'em.

And I would make it illegal for ISP's to HOST a damned IP number or dot.com! After all I am giving them the damned mapping whether it collides of not so If I do not give them the IP numbers and mappings they cannot host anything can they? ISP's would have to host a dot.com for free! After all they may be able to charge for the damned web site but they are doing absolutely nothing for you if they let the Internet people map your dot.com as existing at such and such a computer address! What a dammed rip off! I say pass a law right now that they cannot hold web sites hostage. If the Internet is to work you HAVE to map names to addresses. Or let's forget it. Charging the moon for this stuff is insane!

Any why we are on the subject why the hell does the government not step in and tell MA BEll to get the hell out of the Internet. They are given a mandate to charge by our CRTC for one thing: Telecommunications. Not the Internet. And they have to put lines in if a subscribers asks for them. And they cannot charge more than the gov't will allow. So, if those assholes are refusing to put local loops in and they are charging the moon for T1's and T3's they are doing it in order to compete in the Internet business. It's obvious and they are breaking the law in doing so. The gov't realizes that BELL will make money on every line it is "forced" to supply, so they should shit or get off the pot and limit their charges for all high speed lines to fair wholesale tariff. There is no reason, with the Bandwidth BELL already has that a T1 should be more than $1000.00 CDN a month for all 486 billion priority-one bytes per month! Anything else is pure Bell or Sprint rip-off to drive the customer out of their non-mandated business and create a new monopoly.!

Enuff said.

Ok I got it and no bullshit. Forget NetLinux. We will start a company and make our own non UNIX non Windows operating system. All text. No crashes. IF the clients howl and scream we tell them to learn ROFF or TEX to typeset their documents and don't bug us. tell them we will train then on it.

BUT we have these two great advantages. Although we run straight non MS DOS command line we sell the source code as an extra for the same price. One hundred dollars with free upgrades. After all someone has to pay for publishing and distribution. AND we sell a manual for fifty bucks in PLAIN ENGLISH. Every command explained simply AND an ON Line manual AND DISK MAP so you can actually find something in less than 15 minutes!

So if they like this plain text command line system that does not crash and does networks and they still want more we build a true client server GUI where the SERVER runs the Windowing system on each terminal or computer and the GUI can crash without bringing down the operating system AND the files are saved every minute AND you can recover from a delete STAR dot STAR.

AND the system has a GOOD email package with, GASP, multiple mailing list and AN ACTUAL DATABASE of MAIL. Imagine! AND WOW a SPELLING CHECKER! Whoopee! AND NO NETSCAPE. Maybe a browser that NEVER CRASHES. NEVER. I promise. AND GASP, DRAG AND DROP! WOW!

AND maybe EASY TAPE BACKUP and Maybe SCANNING AND USB and it PRINTS TOO to colour printers in GRAPHICS. Imagine!

But let's not call it Linux beacuse we will be dead before Linux has those features. We will be dead before Linux has a good word processor that can run when Netscape is running and maybe GIMP at the same time too!

Would be nice.

Not that I'm bitter.
