Presario Best Selling PC During Retail's Busiest Buying Holiday Season

HOUSTON, December 13, 1999 - According to NPD Intelect, Compaq Computer Corporation's (NYSE: CPQ)
award-winning line of Presario Internet PCs was the best selling PC brand in U.S. retail channels year-to-date
ending October 1999, with an overall 33 percent market share—9 points higher than its nearest competitor(1).

The Presario family also garnered a record-breaking overall market share of 43 percent in October 1999—at the
start of the busiest holiday buying season of the year—leading in the U.S. computer retail market for desktops and
portables with respective shares of 43 percent and 44 percent.

For over two and a half years, Compaq Presario has maintained its lead as America's favorite consumer retail
brand, capturing the No. 1 spot in 31 out of 32 months since March 1997(2).

Presario Internet PCs continue to receive top industry awards, recognized by industry-leading computer
publications for innovative technologies and attractive price points. Since the beginning of 1999, Compaq Presario
Internet desktops and notebooks have won more than 78 awards, including the prestigious PC Computing "MVP
State of the Art Desktop" award given to the Presario 5861.

In June 1998, Compaq introduced the first Internet PC, which included the first Easy Access Internet Keyboard, with
