Jane -- Check this out. I'm really high on IDC.
This came off of the Dow Jones newswire tonight!
Yeah!!!! They make reference to IDC as a baby QCOM!!!!!

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Interdigital Communications Corp. (IDC) took its
second consecutive double-digit gain Monday as investors speculated that
another company may be using the telecommunications concern's patented
technology.
Sometimes referred to as a baby Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM), Interdigital
completed a two-day run-up that began Friday when the stock jumped 60%.
Over the past two days, the King of Prussia, Pa., company has seen its
shares soar 83%.
The stock was the second most actively traded issue on the American Stock
Exchange Monday. It closed at 20 that day, up 2 1/2, or 14.3%, on volume of
5.7 million, compared with a daily average of 598,600. Earlier, shares hit
an intraday high of 22, past the previous 52-week ceiling of 18 1/4 set
Friday.
There was no hard news out, only speculation that another company may be
using Interdigital's patented system for use in code division multiple
access (CDMA) - a form of digital cellular phone service.
Interdigital officials would not comment on those rumors. The patents are
already the center of pending lawsuit with Ericsson Telephone Co. (ERICY).
Interdigital recently received notice that it received two reexamination
certificates on three patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Rip Tilden, Interdigital executive vice president of communications and
investor relations, said the company owns 800 patents around the world on
CDMA and time division multiple access - a technology used to separate
multiple conversations transmitted over the air.
Those patents should be worth substantial revenue as the world moves to a
third-generation standard for wireless data and voice transmissions, Tilden
said.
"We do feel we've got pretty good long-term growth prospects," he said.
"That seems to have given investors confidence in our long-term potential."

Jane -- this PR also came out today on IDC.
Now that you sold USWB before it tanked today -- you may want to nibble some IDC.
p.s. wonder why the market didn't like the Whit & USWB news?

INTERDIGITAL EXECUTIVE TO CHAIR BROADBAND WIRELESS
ACCESS STUDY GROUP

King of Prussia, PA, December 13, 1999 . . . InterDigital Communications Corporation (ASE: IDC) announced
today that Brian Kiernan, Senior Vice President, will chair a new Study Group of the IEEE (The Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.) that will address the wireless data needs of residential and home
office users as well as telecommuters.

The new Study Group will focus on Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) and will investigate establishing air
interface specifications for fixed point to multi-point BWA systems operating in radio frequency bands below 10
GHz. This work will be done within the IEEE 802.16 Working Group on BWA which is moving quickly to
standardize a BWA air interface in the 10-66 GHz frequency range

The Executive Committee of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN (Local Area Network/Metropolitan Area Network)
Standards Committee created the new Study Group during its most recent meeting upon the request of 802.16
which named Mr. Kiernan as Chair. The new Group has received strong interest from more than 30 companies
in the data communications industry and hopes to foster widespread industry support for a high-speed wireless
data transmission standard suitable for residential, SOHO (small office, home office) and telecommuting
applications.

Mr. Kiernan will lead the new Study Group in assessing appropriate frequency bands as well as technical and
business community interest and in working with other standards development organizations such as the ITU,
T1P1 and ETSI. He commented, "The development of standardized air interface specifications for lower
frequency broadband wireless services such as MMDS (Multi-channel, Multi-point Distribution Services) could
greatly expand the availability of low cost, high speed Internet access to the home. There is strong support for
this effort in the datacom community and we are eager to encourage this nascent industry."

Mr. Kiernan is responsible for InterDigital's worldwide standards efforts. Under his direction, InterDigital has
actively participated in fixed wireless access and 3G standards development groups by contributing design ideas,
concepts and methodologies. Howard Goldberg, Interim President said, "Brian's participation in this Group
reflects our commitment to help shape global telecom standards and our strategy to grow as a provider of
advanced technology solutions. We are continually exploring new growth opportunities consistent with our core
competencies in fixed and mobile markets."

InterDigital has a strong heritage in the development of digital wireless technology and the deployment of fixed
wireless access systems for subscribers throughout the world. InterDigital believes its extensive experience in
this area will be of great benefit to the new Study Group.

The transnational Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. is the world's largest technical
professional society.

The IEEE 802.16 Working Group on BWA develops standards and recommended practices to support the global
development and deployment of fixed broadband wireless access systems. 802.16 is a unit of the IEEE 802
LAN/MAN Standards Committee, which is the world leader in computer networking standards, defining wired
and wireless Ethernet. 802.16 is cosponsored by the IEEE's Computer Society and Microwave Theory and
Techniques Society, and it publishes through the IEEE Standards Association. For more details, see the 802.16
web site: nwest.nist.gov.

InterDigital is creating innovative solutions for mainstream wireless applications that deliver cost and
time-to-market advantages for its customers. For more information, please visit InterDigital's web site:
