Tench or thread, I was wondering if you could explain how AMD gets PC100 and eventually PC133 (and further iterations) to work with their Athlon 200mhz front side bus?

I'm under the assumption that Intel uses the Camino (memory controller hub) to do some complex things that I don't have the technical background to understand to get their 133mhz front side bus to communicate with different frequencies of RDRAM and the AGP 4X interface.

Does AMD do the same with their Irongate?

Also, in the past why did front side bus speeds have to be the same frequencies as the main memory speeds?

I think the reason Via P6 chipsets aren't that great is because Via basically has to design the chipset themselves without Intel's help (which seems normal).

The KX133 isn't competing with the AMD 750, it will initially complement it and eventually take the 750's space. Because of this AMD is helping Via with the chipset, at least that is what Tom says. tomshardware.com
