the numbers show that at least for '99 every domestic sector has been selling.

You are right that non yen deposits have done poorly. I don't think that there has been a significant move into non yen depos by the Japanese retail sector. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future. One of the few ways I can think of for the Japanese to get out of this involve currency debasement and significant yen depreciation. If they choose that route it will be interesting to see how much money moves out of yen.
