I would also add, update via the modem(direct dial) and not via the internet, at least for the first update.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may go that direction soon.
But, between now and the end of the year I have enough unrelated PC issues on my plate to keep me busy.

In the mean time I'll continue to use the older PC, it's slow but at least it's relatively dependable.
