Nice jump back by NN in a down market this AM. The
" big " fear of HI CPI or " strong sales " is come
and gone with barely a ripple in this market.
Pundits come and go on CNBC yelling " sky is falling , sky
is falling " but Naz and Dow seem unfazed and are
now climbing back up. Folks are just having a great y2k party.

Great come back of NN from it's lows much faster than other
stocks that went down: again very few sellers.

Somebody must believe in the old Chinese proverb:

it is better to be in NN all the time than out of it,
in windy times of year 2000

Great showing. Back to 24.5 at the end of day?

TA
PS It appears NN is being systematically bought in even lumps of +/- 8000
shares by Institutions ( so as not to arouse suspicion
in the SI thread <vbg>).

Tunica: Looking ahead for Carriers ,the game plan of the Big Boys is to promote use of Fibre and IP. Currently it is IP on ATM , then on Sonet and then on DWDM on fibre.

Currently there is an excess of Fibre. This means that we can overprovide Bandwidth by keeping a few dedicated Fibres for Voice or high QoS. This is basically a mini POTS service
kept at "open on demand". The problem of traffic Mgmt needs to be addressed. Presently, ATM is used by all for traffic control. It is now feasible but not proven to use MPLS and IP for Net Engineering. Sonet too will be dropped because the IP stream can be muxed straight on to Fibre. The Carrier
switches will have to be opt-electronic using IP/MPLS.

The big market will be at the edge. Here Switches with MPLS
to IP will dominate. That is why Terrabit Routers are springing up every day. I cannot understand why NN cannot compete with the rest in this space. They should aim to provide a switch for both the IP and ATM world using MPLS.

I would not be too concerned about the lack of a Sale if NN
has a clear vision of the Global Comm market and a matching plan of action for the Carrier/Edge market.

Their plans for ADSL and LMDS are excellent and a good fit with Mkt requirements. They should now increase market share more aggressively.
