Agreed. Also Summit (SMU.UN) paid out $1.50 in 1999 with promises to increase the dividend next year, while the price continues its downtrend to $10.50. Am I missing something? These aren't exactly resource trusts with dwindling reserves.

The suggestion that it may be tax loss selling may have some merit, as does the transfer out of all sectors into the high tech sector.

Any other suggestions why REIT's have done so poorly - and thoughts on next year?
