Guardian, I agree with you on the profit taking in January. My feeling is that it will happen in early Jan, first week. Then poeple will start to buy back in during the earnings season expected to start in the 3rd week of January.

What do you think about people selling this year for long term (capital gains) since they are subjected to a maximum of 20% anyway. Would it matter when they sell to realize those? I suspect that the selling we saw today was caused by the two reports (CPI and spending) and that those who sold were the long term holders (capital gains) not the type of gain that Sunder Rajan mentions about like buying CMGI in the past 8 weeks and selling it at 200 now.
