Just FYI: The only possibly interesting IPO's I see so far today are HLEX (HealthExtras, priced 11) and TTEL (Tritel, priced 18). Doubt I'll try either one myself today -- but in its IPO analysis, "WorldFinance" says HLEK (an internet service offering supplemental health-care insurance) "may be this week's sleeper deal." Of special interest: its spokesman will be Christopher Reeve.

For more on this and other IPO's this week, check further at the "WorldFinance" site: worldfinancenet.com

COMS hot too

Shares in 3Com Corp. rose in pre-opening trade Tuesday after the company filed to spin off its Palm Pilot unit in an initial public offering.

3Com was up at 49-1/4 on the Instinet electronic broker system from a 44-13/16 Monday close.

Palm Inc., maker of the Palm Pilot hand-held computer devices and a wholly owned 3Com subsidiary, filed with federal regulators on Monday to raise up to $100 million in an initial public offering.

The planned spinoff from 3Com is slated for February, a company official said this month.
