Re: "Kudos to Intel, but this isn't any better than cranking up the voltage a notch or two to improve speed bins. It seems clear to me that the end result is substandard--a reduction in long term processor reliability."

Really? Where's your data to back this up?

When AMD jacked up the voltage to get their parts to limp along at higher MHz we were told that IBM Compaq HP etc would never accept parts unless there was data to prove there was no compromise in reliability. Seems to me that argument that you used before still applies here. I think you guys are just suffering from "process" envy.

Kevin,

Re: "Looks now like the notched gate ... It seems clear to me that the end result is
substandard--a reduction in long term processor reliability."

Now we have a "reliability pronouncement" from the "village process idiot". <ggg>
No Kevin, the device reliability will not be adversely affected by the "notched
gate" process. Notching the gates doesn't affect the Leff (DC characteristics)
but does positively affect the AC performance by reducing the gate overlap
capacitance ... In fact, HCI could well be improved (at the same supply
voltage). Nice try though. <ggg>

Do you still expect AMD to release their Copper "AthWIPES" by the end of
this year ??

Make It So,
Yousef
