With CMTO's old modems (pre-Cisco compliant) changing head-ends meant a replacement was mandatory. Now, with DOCSIS certification, CMTO's modems will work with any head-end.

Glad this wasn't a quality issue.

Charter may be trying to move some parts of their system to being DOCSIS certified (headend and modem). This could be part of their business plan. If anything this underscores the importance of DOCSIS here. I think Fenner was very much right that now with the certification they have a chance to address this market.
