Joan, GE is another long term hold in the Techride portfolio. I bought it years ago and have sat back and enjoyed the ride. GE is a mutual fund in the form of a stock if you think of all they do.
I think they should of split the stock by now but GE like all corporations is an elephant when it comes to getting them to move. BUT, when they do move, watch out.
GE is worth owning also because it will make you pay attention to overall market movements. When there is not news on GE the DOW will often mimic GE stock.
I'll miss Jack when he leaves GE as he is The CEO of the century (and a nice guy). Big shoes to fill when he leaves but he has made a culture at GE that will live on. Rumor is there are three strong inside replacements to pick from. It doesn't always work out that way.
Remember a few months back when HWP needed someone to replace Lew Platt? Their replacement for Lew left the company and they couldn't find who they were looking for inside the company so they went outside. In Bill and Dave's HWP the last thing you wanted to do was go outside the HP family.
Now HWP's new CEO, Carly Fiorna may give "good commercial" but I seriously doubt she knows why HWP seems to have lost its culture ("The HP Way") or why the company has slipped like it has.
Funny thing about fixing things is you have to know what is broke.
Commercials won't fix it. Telling people to "watch" won't fix it. There is only one thing that can.
Lucky for GE they don't have such problems. GE is on auto 909 and so are we GE shareholders.
