I'm really interested in Palm and want to see if I can get in on the IPO. I suppose it will be practically impossible! Who knows though.

Surely PALM qualifies as the gorilla in PDAs.

It depends on the product you are referring to when you use the term, Palm. If you're referring to the handheld gadget, it's a royalty game in which COMS is hoping to become the King. If you're referring to the operating system, COMS is either the gorilla candidate or the established gorilla.

Don't forget that there is another Gorilla that is drooling over taking over the palmtop. WinCE, while it has been underwhelming, has lots of room for improvement, and companies like HP (Jornada) and Compaq making the devices. Now Microsoft's monopoly on the desktop obviously has not translated into a monopoly in the hand, but by the same token PalmOS is not a sure bet to win in the end, either.

On another note, look at Handspring (founded by the founders of Palm) for another company using the Palm OS. I bet they got a sweet deal on using the PalmOS for near nothing when they left 3COM.

And as previously mentioned, the OS by Symbian has a lot of backers.

So does anyone think a Gorilla, King or other will emerge from this? If so, anyone placing bets on who?
