Windows was simpler than DOS for most users. Going to Linux would be a step backwards in terms of complexity. And for those that do switch, they will give up compatibility with their customers and suppliers and access to 98% of the available applications for business and personal use. If a software developer is going to bet his/her financial success on the development of a product, with which operating system do you think he/she will develop that product to be compatible? The one with 98% of the market or the one with 2% of the market?
