Re: "If they do come out next week and PCs aren't on store shelves, it will be further proof that Intel's standards for a release are going down, right down to AMD's."

Regretably, I don't need a whole lot more convincing.

Did anyone check out The Chipmerchants CPU homepage at store.yahoo.com . Also check out computerprofis.de which is a comparable computer parts discounter in Germany. The fastest Intel CPU you can buy in both shops is a 677 MHz PIII, the fastest AMD is a 700 MHz Athlon. Everybody is talking about comming 800 MHz announcements of Intel but you can not even buy a 700MHz CPU from them in the biggest hardware parts shops. What is that telling you ?

It is already crystal clear that Intel has changed its policy with regard to the timing of their announcements. Their timing is now similar to AMD.

Intel can announce 750 and 800 MHz this Monday. I do not think anyone will care.

<Now THAT would be interesting. Only one Tier 1 733 PC on store shelves and Intel may already be announcing the 750 and 800. >

For the reasons you stated and more, it would be a real sham(e) if Intel does do this launch.

<If they do come out next week and PCs aren't on store shelves, ...>

There are a few people who seemed to have ordered CuMine systems from Dell that still have not recieved it with some deliveries being scheduled for late December and some for January. Christmas is over at this point.

<...it will be further proof that Intel's standards for a release are going down, right down to AMD's.>

You mean "old AMD"? AMD's 750 was reasonably well launched with systems even from some smaller OEMs at introduction. And, even Sharky's is saying that 800MHz Athlons are all set.

By the way, I doubt Intel is going to lower their standards this much but as I have noted before stranger things have happened so I will wait and watch.
