I recently purchased a Bosch Aquastar tankless water heater. It runs on propane and the ignition is a piezoelectric device that is fired off two alkaline D cell batteries. Thus as long as I don't run out of propane and I still have water pressure (the big if), I don't personally need electricity to have hot water.

Your new sparker may be similar technology. I don't think it has been around that long.

Was that "you" Daffodil? A woodstove huh? A enameled one sounds lovely. <gg>

I am not sure your boiler would have worked without electricity. Does it have a back up battery power source?

If not, I don't see how.
