Corel Corporation Integrates Jabber Instant Messaging Into CorelCity.com
Application Platform

Webb Provides First Instant Messaging Service Based On
Jabber.org's Open-Source Movement

DENVER, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Webb Interactive Services, Inc.
(Nasdaq: WEBB), a leading provider of infrastructure services for local
commerce, today announced JabberIM, its first instant messaging service built
in partnership with the Jabber.org XML-based, open-source movement. JabberIM
is included in Corel Corporation's (Nasdaq: CORL) recently announced
application platform, CorelCity.com; in addition to being embedded within
Corel's new Linux Desktop OS.
JabberIM provides CorelCity.com users with an all web-based means of
creating buddy lists and sending instant messages. Webb has integrated and
hosts JabberIM services on Corel's behalf for the CorelCity.com platform. No
terms or financial information on the partnership is being released.
In November, Corel announced bundling of its new Linux Operating System,
Corel(R) LINUX(R) OS, with every computer motherboard shipped worldwide by the
PC Chips group of companies. PC Chips estimates shipments of more than
20 million motherboards in 2000. Corel LINUX OS and PC Chips customers will
be able to access JabberIM through the desktop menu or a CorelCity.com icon.
"Corel's adoption of JabberIM is an important boost for the Jabber.org
open source movement because it creates a sizable distribution channel for
JabberIM," said Perry Evans, president of Webb Interactive Services.
"Fundamentally, an open source movement will enable instant messaging to
become one of the next great platforms for advanced real-time Internet
communications. The timing is perfect for a truly independent and open
movement."
"Jabber.org is an open source development movement that works closely in
the same community as Linux and Apache and now has a registered group of more
than 600 developers, with 200 individuals assigned to active sub-projects,"
said Jeremie Miller, Jabber.org's founder. "Based upon current momentum,
Jabber.org will provide a solid foundation for a broad array of commercial and
enterprise applications and services by early next year."
Jabber.org is currently working to integrate its XML technologies into the
Mozilla (Netscape 5) web browser and several other open source projects
designed to expand cross-compatibility with existing instant messaging
platforms.
