Beside there is more than just name in this deal. The Japanese have to pay stiff import duties on phones coming into the US, so having a plant here that makes phones for hte US makes alot of sense. Oki, Alps, Sony, Panasonic, Nokia, Ericcson, Siemens, Matsushita, and Denso (toyota) all have factories here. Kyocera would be just joining the crowd.

LBS - It may be worse than nothing. Kyocera is now present in NA with the long delayed Iridium phone. Their failure to bring it to market much earlier with a sleeker than Mot phone may have been one of the marketing disasters for that system. Realistically, where would Kyocera get the funds (we don't want their stock) to do any major part of a Q deal?. Best, John
