USR had $17M in cash - for a company doing $2B in sales - a train wreck waiting to happen. They had 9-12 months of modems stuffed into the channel - not a good way of building respect or loyalty. These guys were headed on a path to BK until COMS came in. PALM has salvaged this buy, for the time being, pure and simple.
