Jeff--I've noticed in the past few days that small percentage drops in the Nikkei have been explained as selling due to y2k fears. (I don't buy that explanation myself at this time...yet)

Now we have a surprise? 2% sell off in the Hang Seng.

I think its important to watch selling and the explanation for the selling on Pacific Rim exchanges. The reason I say this is because those investors are much more nervous (perhaps with good reason) in relation to y2k than American investors. Japan experienced an overnight liquidity crisis on 09/09/99.

I suspect that earnest y2k related selling will begin abroad before it begins here.
