Hyundai Electronics to launch wireless Internet handset
Hyundai Electronics Industries (HEI) will launch the Internet phone Gulliver-Neomi tomorrow, the company announced yesterday.

The Internet phone comes with a Web browser that enables users to conveniently log on to the Internet.

The handset is compatible with IS-95B service, transmitting data at 64Kbps-115.2Kbps, according to the company.

The MS-3000 chip installed in the Internet phone has lengthened talk time and standby time to 150 minutes and 150 hours, respectively, using a standard battery.

The company claims that the HGP-R2010 PCS (personal communications service) model, at 79g, is the lightest among folder-type models currently available.

The wireless handsets come in white pearl, yellow gold, reddish gold, light gold and basic black.

Though the PCS model hits the market tomorrow, HGC-201 and HGC-202 for use with cellular services will be available around Dec. 24, the company said.

The Gulliver-Neomi will cost about 250,000 won after handset subsidies of 150,000 won by wireless operators, according to the company.

HEI, which first shipped its CDMA (code division multiple access) handsets overseas last year, plans to capture 12.5 percent of the global CDMA handset market by 2003, a company official said.

It will enter the GSM (global system for mobile communications) handset market next year and plans to rollout handsets compatible with IMT-2000 standards in 2001. (KHR)
