JCJ, this is a great post. Yes, Buy and Hold is a terrific strategy. It outperforms 80% of all professionals (mutual fund managers). It's exactly what I use to evaluate my models. If I can't beat buy and hold, why bother?

No, my strategy gets a bad name -- because I do trade a lot. But, really, my point is to reduce risk. I want to avoid the dips the market takes by hedging when the outlook is more gloomy. My models seem to provide me with methods to do that.

But, not everyone likes staring at charts and spending the ridiculous amounts of time I've spent on this stuff.

Also, as I've said previously, I'd never advise anyone to actually have a "short" portfolio. We humans will always be working on improving things...

Thanks for the comments! Now, I must sleep!!!
