Dwight,

I don't think that ORCL's upside surprise is likely to ignite as much buying and certainly not as broadly. Its a bit different having a gun to your head to add a position (being added to an index) than having the option to play if you feel like it (upside surprise).

Besides, VRTY (admittedly not in the same league as ORCL, but a recognizable ecommerce/inet name none the less) had a downside surprise 9 cents vs 12 expected, and traded down 50% after hours.

So who knows. Rumours of MSFT settlement weren't enough to keep the market afloat today (although granted they tried real hard. Congrats to anyone that shorted MSFT at the most obvious point in the world today (test of high dating back to July).

Cheers
Michael

Dwight, a look at ORCL's balance sheet reveals that shareholders' equity is falling sharply, quite in contrast to the hoopla about 'better-than-expected' earnings. so where did all that money go? and why hasn't even one WS analyst questioned this, or commented on it?

regards,
