Commemorative Silver Millennium Coins to Be Launched 1999.12.19¡@2:25am Taiwan time updated Taipei, Dec. 18 (CNA) A silver bullion coin, struck to mark the new millennium, will be officially issued on Tuesday by the Central Bank of China. The coin, made of 99.9 percent silver, weighs 15.568 grams, has a diameter of 3.3 cm and a thickness of 0.225 cm. One side of the coin features the celestial model created by ancient Chinese astrologers, and is dated "the 89th year of the Republic of China," along with the inscription: "ushering in 2000." The other side bears an illustration of a dragon which is both the symbol of ancient China and the sign of the Chinese zodiac for 2000. Although stamped with a face value of NT$50 (US$1.50), the coin, which will have a run of 100,000, will be sold at NT$750 apiece by Taiwan Bank branches islandwide from Tuesday, on the basis of one coin per person, first come first served, said the CBC. chinatimes.com.tw
