RSA Security and Compaq Sign Broad Security Licensing Agreement
Compaq to Use Full Range of RSA Security Components in New Internet Strategy
BEDFORD, Mass., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS - news) and Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) today strengthened their long-standing strategic relationship through a far-reaching licensing agreement that gives the computer maker greater access to a wider range of RSA security technology. The new accord significantly extends Compaq's current licenses with RSA Security to cover all Compaq product divisions, and adds new licenses that give Compaq access to all of the RSA BSAFE® family of security components as Compaq pursues its new Internet strategy.

In addition to expanding its current licenses to all Compaq divisions for RSA BSAFE® Crypto-C and RSA BSAFE® Crypto-J(TM) cryptographic components, Compaq signed new licenses covering the remainder of RSA Security's public-key infrastructure and security protocol software, including RSA BCERT certificate processing components, RSA TIPEM(TM) secure mail components, and RSA BSAFE® SSL-C and RSA BSAFE SSL-J crypto development kits. Today's agreement is designed to enable Compaq to move forward very aggressively with embedding public-key security technology into a broad range of desktop, appliance and server products providing trusted platform capabilities and secure network management to its customers.

''To be the leader in the Internet architecture, Compaq must address user requirements for security across all its product lines, and there is no better way to do that than by working with the most trusted name in the e-security industry,'' said Pauline Nist, senior vice president and general manager, Enterprise Systems Solutions, at Compaq. ''For more than 10 years RSA Security has helped numerous Compaq divisions gain competitive advantage, and we expect this new agreement to allow Compaq to extend that kind of competitive positioning.'' Ms. Nist will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming RSA Conference 2000 to be held January 17-20, 2000 in San Jose, Calif.

''We're extremely pleased by Compaq's renewed and expanded relationship with RSA, and look forward to working closely with them as the company pursues its aggressive new Internet strategy,'' said Art Coviello, president of RSA Security. ''RSA Security technologies create the foundation to help Compaq deliver secure solutions across its entire product range.''

The RSA BSAFE family of security components is a set of complementary products that are designed to provide complete security coverage for applications. The RSA BSAFE product line provides C and Java developers with implementations of critical security protocols -- RSA BSAFE SSL-C, RSA BSAFE SSL-J, and RSA S/MIME-C; core cryptographic services -- RSA BSAFE Crypto-C and RSA BSAFE Crypto-J; and PKI services -- RSA BSAFE Cert-C and RSA BSAFE Cert-J. RSA BSAFE security components are designed to be PKI-ready, speeding development of applications integrated with a public key infrastructure.
