Bob Howarth: next year inflation will be higher and so interest rates.LU, CSCO and NT
with their astronomical PEs will fall rapidly along with all
the Internuts.
Where are LU and Co going to find the money to Finance?
With cheaper shares ? Or maybe they own a Bank we don't know
about?

And then Finance what? Non-Carrier hardy switches?
Come on Howarth nobody is going to kid the Carriers.
AT&T and Vodaphone Mannesman will be using NN ATMs and
wireless souped up switches
and unless other Carriers fall in line they will have their
meals too eaten up by the best NN ATM.

Optical routers may get you around the block at the edge
and maybe wade a little at the core, but we are
not going to be taking Transatlantic trips with these
rubber boat.

Remember what INTC did to AMD? They used sales of high end chips to attack AMD on low end chip prices. MSFT gave browser away to destroy Netscape.
LU/NT/CSCO will subsidize sales from other areas to attack NN in exactly the same way. Gotta have scale or the big guys have you for dinner.

GOTTA HAVE SCALE?

or the big guys destroy you in the market? Agree,
HOWEVER:

Flynn makes the point that they have to choose where they
are going to compete since they CANNOT compete against the
entire range, which is now too vast.

Does anybody on this thread think that NN is in the same league as CSCO, NT, LU? I doubt it.

But can NN thrive and even prosper on the basis of:

-- capitalizing on their customer base
-- being the innovation and reliability leader in several
well chosen synergistic markets

I think so.

To me the questions are:

1) are they going to be bought in the immediate future?
2) if not, what exactly ARE they going to do?
3) will they actually do it?
4) can they consistently play in the EPS game?

Maybe I am gigantically naive, but I am modestly optimistic
on all counts.

Best wishes,

Jim

And we saw what that strategy has done for MSFT and INTC at this time.
They are getting a haircut even as we speak,
