John -
Thanks for the insightful comments. Let me clear up 1 thing - re: you said that you are thinking on selling based on this year's past performance
I have no intention of unloading my entire DELL position. But if it is going to be a stable, reliable gainer rather than the high flyer it was for me in 1998, I would give it a place in my portfolio more like my holdings of INTC and MSFT - which is about 10%, half of my current DELL position.

INTC nearly doubled in 1998 - that induced me to add to my position, taking it to about 10% overall. In 1999, it has had performance similar to DELL, up just a little ytd... I am content with my holding there, INTC is not going away, but I don't fell compelled to add to that position.

Likewise MSFT - up about 2.5X in 1998, I added to my position, it is up about 20% ytd... I plan to hold but not add.

In that context, I feel comfortable that DELL should be at about the same percentage of my portfolio as those two. If CPQ ever comes back, I will also reduce that holding... I want to get a little more liquid to grab some of the opportunities I see in 2000.
