as I remember that DRAM pricing started accelerating in late July and August timeframe -
I think DRAM prices increased as production was shifted to Rambus, then the Rambus didn't ship and suddenly the demand for DRAM was strong again. The earthquake was a minor component of the whole price.

As you probably know Taiwan only accounts for ~10% of world wide DRAM supply. No way that earth quake cause such margin problem for dell on DRAM alone. Other components maybe by I doubt that as well.
