Hi Brian - thanks. Yes, that is another way to look at it. Considering the product can be an add-on irrespective of vendors and LU remains a dominant force in the OC48 subsector [I'd also like the acknowledge LU's other segments, even though their scope is way beyond our academic discussion here.] Within the perimeter, it is also likely the carriers don't mind to mix and match to diversify their dependency on a single vendor.

To be fair, the counterpoint is that it does provide a tie in if LU has similar product to go head to head the other two.

OT - it will buy privately held Qtera in a deal worth up to $3.25 billion in stock....

Nortel said the deal is expected to be neutral to its earnings per share in calendar year 2000.

Some analysts are asking if the acquisition signals that Nortel's internal development efforts are moving too
slowly.


$3.25 bil for a company that wont add to the bottom line for over a year? Hmmmm.... SS!
