Chisy: OT.....

Funny you should mention digital cameras. I'm looking at them meself. I've finished all my X-mas shopping and now am in full furor to buy meself a load of toys for me, me, ME! *Ahem*

Anyway, digital cameras are one of the categories I'm looking at. You should know the January 2000 issue of PC World, page 157, has an evaluation of 13 cameras $500 and above, and 7 cameras under $500. The camera they rate the best buy over $500 is the Nikon Coolpix 950 at ~$999 street price. The pro's are the devices extensive manual controls, the con's are slow shutter response, weak documentation, no TWAIN drive.

The best buy under $500 is Olympus D-450 Zoom, for $499 street price. The pro's here are Top optical-zoom model, impressive pictures, easy image downloads. The cons are short BATTERY LIFE(heh), cryptic controls.

I recommend you get the magazine, because the accompanying article can probably add more information than I can here.

Hope this helps with the 'ol X-mas shopping...

John~

OT --- digital cameras
Chisy,
Go to the Sandisk (SNDK) thread, ask Ausdauer, a frequent poster there. He is a photographer way into digital cameras, has tried many of them himself, and has bought more than one as gifts for relatives or friends. He is also very responsive when asked questions like this one. You can PM him or just ask on the thread.

Good luck,
Sam
