OT - Jim, thanks for the response. I think the original point I was trying to make, maybe not very successfully, was that while punctuated equilibrium applied as an analogy to technoeconomics is interesting - you can't apply it as a theory. Macromutation certainly can be applied to technology as a stand alone term, but not in the framework of p. equilibrium, a biological theory. I'm aware of Wilson and Dennett. Maybe I'm behind times in sociobiology. MeDroogies, I'm envious that you have attended the Santa Fe Institute. Have there been papers recently applying ideas of p. equilibrium to the field of technoeconomics. Rich
