***Hong Kong Phooey to CDMA*** A little history, to answer the question: <Can you explain to me what happened to CDMA in Hong Kong?>

Mqurice,

Nice try and thank you for your response. However, your response was not very satisfying on three fronts.

You basically said:

1) CDMA and its operators/suppliers couldn't cut it in HK, the most vibrant business city on earth. Spectral efficiency of CDMA was not enough to 'win' in a densely populated city such as HK.

2) CDMA was a success in Korea because its government forced it down its citizens throats.

3) And we have no idea what will happen in Europe-GSM-land when we look to HK and Korea as examples.

Not a very warm and fuzzy feeling of the future of CDMA-air in GSM-dominated lands (of apprx. 300 million GSM users today and growing fast).

I hope someone could provide us with a better answer to 'What happened to CDMA in Hong Kong?'

Respectfully,

moat

p.s. BTW, people in HK love to use their wireless phones all the time.
