Bob, my experience with after hour trading with E*trade thru Instinet has been more positive. The main reason is that almost all of my afterhour trades are instantly profitable. Most are sell orders that I simply couldn't get filled at that price during regular hours. A lot of orders go unfilled but the ones that do go thru are sales at a significant premium or buys at a substantial discount to the closing bid/ask price. Be careful and know the trading value of your stock for I have also seen some totally ridiculous bid/ask quotes get filled.
