I don't know about other states but in mine we would have to pay the sales tax to register the vehicle with the DMV regardless of where it was purchased.

regards

Re: Sales Tax
Many company's, like Dell, simply include "Terms and Conditions of Sale" which specify that the purchaser is responsible for paying the appropriate taxes: (emphasis mine)

4.Shipping Charges, Taxes. Separate charges for shipping and handling will be shown on Dell's invoice(s). Unless Customer provides Dell with a valid and correct tax exemption certificate applicable to the product ship-to location prior to Dell's acceptance of the order, the Customer is responsible for sales and all other taxes associated with the order, however designated, except for Dell's franchise taxes and taxes on Dell's net income. If applicable, a separate charge for taxes will be shown on Dell's invoice.

Others require you to pay taxes based on the State where you live. And some require sales tax only if the Ship-to address is in the state of the supplier.

Some simply ignore the issue. Appears to be no consistency re: sales tax. <g>

BTW, I believe there are similar issues with orders through catalogues.

Brian, I don't know the answer and there's no use pretending I do. <g> It is a good question. However, I do think that kicking the tires and taking a test ride and seeing the color in person are worth something. Maybe not 8 1/8% here in Texas, but something. <g>
