Thursday December 16, 8:01 am Eastern Time Company Press Release JDS Uniphase Completes SIFAM Acquisition NEPEAN, Ontario, and SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 1999--JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq:JDSU - news; TSE:JDU - news) today completed its previously announced acquisition of SIFAM Limited (SIFAM), based in the United Kingdom. SIFAM's fused component products are used to split, combine and filter light in optical fiber. Many SIFAM products are critical components in optical amplifiers, such as the WDM couplers that combine the 980 or 1480 nanometer pump laser signals with the source network signal to enable amplification of the source signal. SIFAM's gain-flattening filters, also used in optical amplifiers, enable the amplified power level to be independent of wavelength.
