Cisco WAS the Internet infrastructure.............that has changed as the traditional Telco vendors are aggressively moving into the data network infrastructure business.

Fibre Optics will be the superhighway of internet and who owns that market? NT.

In fact as Voice & Data truely start to converge, old-world circuit switched technology vendors that can fully integrate data/packet capability on a fibre optic medium will have a big advantage in winning lion's share of the IP network infrastructure market (Telco/PTT markets are already theirs).

As QWest says in their ad "Ride The Light", NT will ride the light to leapfrog both Lucent and Cisco in the backbone long-haul networks. Furthermore, NT's SOFTWARE/network approach to bring data/routing functionality into the core of the network for your basic packet control functionalities and then opening up the network interface API to any and all communication vendors thereby commoditizing the enterprise router market will marginalize Cisco and bring their growth level back down to normal levels...........this is what happens when the industry matures and true competition is brought to bear on what was the domain of Cisco for the past 10 years.
