I do not know. From all accounts that I have seen there were many of the military dependents there at the time of the attack. The military officers knew that a war with Japan would be inevitable and knew that the Hawaiian Islands would be one of the first lines of defense but were constantly assured by Washington that there was no cause for alarm. I suppose it does not make much matter after so many years but I sometimes cringe at the way some people idolize a man who was not close to being a great president. His many generous gifts of real estate to the Russians was the major cause of the entire cold war.
