<Am I not correct that Bear Stearns dropped coverage of Quantum?>

Yes, this is true that coverage was ended. The BS analyst may have misunderstood the Compaq press release on SDLT. I haven't asked Quantum whether they agree with the statement from the Bear Stearns analyst, but I will do so as it would be a nice clarification.

<But they did say that the transfer rate is not finalized and that qualification would be "long and iterative". And that it would be late 2000 before a backward compatible SDLT would be out? >

I don't recall whether Quantum said anything about the transfer rate being finalized or about the qualification process being long and iterative. I do recall some mention of backward compatibility as an option, but I don't recall the time-frame for that option.

<I have sizable investments in Exabyte and Ecrix and some good industry sources.>

I made a small trade in EXBT recently and will keep an eye on it. It's pulled back a bit and is coming into range. If you have an investment in Ecrix then you must have a sizable amount of money to work with. Aren't they raising capital through rounds of VC funding? I recall reading that somewhere. No small potatoes investing in a VC round.

<I have no interest in DSS. Therefore, believe it or not, what I say is for your benefit, not mine.>

Thank you for deciding what is in my benefit as my cranial capacity is quite low along with my reasoning abilities. If you have no interest in DSS, then why post on this board? You may have good industry sources to rely on but you rarely give any insight into those sources or what their angle is. It is my own judgement and preference to trust accountable sources. The drawback in this case and on these boards is that these sources can come from places such as the media, the analyst community, and company management or investor relations departments. Most of them don't give a complete or unbiased analysis to the retail investor. Good day!
