Its a control problem CB. There are too many factors in this type of research that you have to control for. I would definitely agree with you that children in similar circumstances would be changed by the fact that their parents did or did not spank. Unfortunately the type of conclusion that is drawn in social research is usually political not empirical.

I don't counter those charges. I don't know enough about them to support OR counter.

However, I do think that spanking is one of many areas where the biases of those conducting the study are probably impossible to quantify or allow for. So I'm not sure it's possible to have a valid study on the subject. (I haven't followed the argument since I was away for several days, so don't know whether I'm agreeing or disagreeing with you here!
