JimL. Thanks, what a hell of a company for a long, long term investment. Just did a little DD, but I am very impressed and agree with their philosophy. It also seems to be a good time to invest since they are near their recent lows. However I will wait until next year. Amazingly they have at least a passbook return dividend plus tremendous potential. Personally I think that gas, electricity, and power in general is entering into a near age. By that I mean that the above has been taken for granted for most of this century. With deregulation and the fact that energy will increasingly become more of a commodity, profits will be made. Previously profits were divided amongst all energy providers to keep them in business thus enabling them to provide energy to the mass public. We are now going through a transition period that will turn energy companies into something similar to the major oil companies. Consolidation will run rampant within the next decade and only the strong will survive. Locally, I have watched Southern Union Gas acquire, acquire, and acquire. Last summer in Texas, we had reasonable temps, however many localized brownouts. The reason being most utilities made small fortunes selling energy where it was needed the most, in the northeast. Energy was going for 10x its value in Texas, which is regulated. It has taken decades to connect all areas of the US with either gas or electric lines. We did not have that in the 50's thru 80's. Now we can transfer with little difficulty. Another example is the inter-connectivety of water lines. Another essestial. Within the state of Texas we have several hundred miles of inter-connected waterlines. It has become big business among public entities to sell water during shortages. It is not far fetched for a several state region to be connected with waterlines within the next decade. I guess that is enough rambling, thanks again for calling my attention to DUK and watch for other energy and water innovators in the coming years. hdr
