Did you end up getting BlackICE defender? If so, what do you think of it? I have settled on either of the following: BlackICE or Conseal's Private Desktop (http://www.signal9.com/products/desktop/index.html).

i've since installed a personal firewall.

Thanks, Nick

Mark,

frankly I was suprised when i visited

ftp or telnet

ftp 127.0.0.1

or
telnet 127.0.0.1

Its like all my files are there! and its totally open!

its supposed to be a secret government project.... but who knows... maybe its the midnight gremlins at work.

Pre-April Fools: WEll actually 127.0.0.1 is a hardware loopback to your own system. You will always see your own files!

mr.mark, Thanks for the TIP. I printed out instructions,
followed the Bindings/Un-Bindings, Check/Un-Checked boxes and
Surprise,Suprise, CLOSED all my ports. Even #139. Lan
not working but will have to configure #2 'puter tomorrow.

I'll try & stay with SyGate, otherwise will connect with supplied program from Win98 SE. Should work if I Bind/Uncheck #2 same
as #1. Not sure if MS Connect will work with NSCP 4.7.

Steve Gibson says he will continue to probe our Ports and if he figures it out he'll e-mail us (free) the solution.

Regards, /jw

ps: lots of nice tips from Steve how/to set up LAN. Have you
received NICs and started?
