"I think that Cisco has exploded on the scene so fast that all the "Big Boys" are in a state of shock!
The Big ones always fall hardest in the end."

Don't you think Cisco is one of the Big ones?

The fact of the matter is that Cisco has unfortunately awakened the sleeping giants (LU, NT, Alcatel, Ericy) who "will not go gently into the night" too prematurely as Cisco is not ready to fight the battle...........but the battle has begun and the convergence of Data and Voice means there will be some major casualties when the dust settles because Cisco's market is NT's market and vice versa.

NT is going to do it's best to hurt Cisco's source of cashflow (enterprise router) which is funding their dumb foray into the telco market. That's why I don't necessarily agree that Cisco will continue to be mega profitable even if they fail in the Telco foray BECAUSE the Telco equipment vendors have already aimed to cripple Cisco's source of strength.

Cisco would have been best to STAY FOCUSED in the Enterprise Router market and reinvest all that windfall billions BACK into the Router technology to build a unsurpassable competitive edge..........as it is now, they are spreading themselves quite thin AND they've incited a WAR on all the major "old-world" public network infrastructure vendors.

Guess who is going to be the Sitting Duck in the next few years?
